About our CEO

Message from Our President/CEO (Dr. Lucy Lang-Chappell)

As President and CEO, I am Proud of the programs and services provided by the Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center, Inc. The Staff and I are dedicated, devoted, with an unsurpassed determination in providing the highest quality of behavioral health and substance abuse services possible within the East and West Garfield Park communities in Chicago, Illinois. As you will ascertain, our programs encompass services directed at persons across the life span from children to the elderly, and comprehensively address their need for outpatient counseling/case management, medical services, and residential treatment. I refer to staff as “Saints & Soldiers” due to their commitment.

We are especially proud of the array of services provided by our current 32 programs that have been developed to meet the needs of persons who are chronically mentally ill, developmentally challenged, and abusers of alcohol and illicit substance. Services are also offered to children & adolescents including assessments. Consumer needs are met through counseling, case management, medication management, and housing programs which have been systematically arranged so that consumers who traditionally “fall between the cracks” are maintained in the community via this network of integrated services. Our residential facilities (i.e., Community Support Residential, Supportive Living Facility, and the Dr. Lucy Lang-Chappell Housing Complex) are designed to provide services that will improve the quality of life for residents within the community.

As a comprehensive community based organization, we recognize the opportunity and the responsibility to not only address the existing needs within the community but to address the emerging needs and issues that affect our youth. Our response to the latter challenge has been strong and effective. A combination of children and adolescent outpatient, youth substance abuse treatment, and a comprehensive alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse prevention programs provide the safety net needed in order to ensure the health, growth and survival of our youth.

In spite of the current economic condition within the U.S. and specifically Illinois wherein Social Services were drastically cut, Bobby E. Wright CBHC, Inc. had to adjust to the cuts without a decrease in services. Many mental health centers were closed or operating at half capacity.

I hope that you find the information provided by this message useful and invite your comments, feedback & help. Please remember we are a not-for-profit fee for service agency and depend on donations regardless of how small.

We thank you.

Lucy Lang Chappell, Ph.D., ACSW
